By the time people reach their fiftieth birthday, many have begun to imagine what their life in retirement may look like. Though data from the U.S. Census Bureau indicates the number of people working into their 70s increased significantly during the first two decades of the twentieth century, the vast majority of professionals still call it a career sometime during their 60s.

Word games continue to be popular pastimes and provide a great opportunity to engage in lighthearted competition among family and friends. Wordle is perhaps the most popular word game to become popular in recent years.

Van Zandt County’s Therapy Dog Teams, and members of Alliance of Therapy Dogs, mourn the passing of another one of their beloved therapy dogs, Ladybug, a 12-year old Giant Schnauzer, who lost her battle with cancer on May 25.

A 50th wedding anniversary celebration will be held honoring Bobby and Mary Williams at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 4. The celebration will be held at Serenity Springs, 3865 Farm-to-Market 858, Ben Wheeler. The celebration is given by their children and guests are asked not to bring gifts.

We are closing out the last week of the school year on a high note. On Monday and Tuesday, May 23 and 24, the kindergarten, first and second grade classes from Grand Saline Elementary took a field trip to the library. They learned how to use their library cards, about the activities we are having this summer, and how to read to win prizes this summer. We are starting out this week with 219 new library card holders in Grand Saline.

Adults confront various age-related side effects as they transition from middle age to their golden years. Skin may begin to wrinkle and hair may turn gray, but those are just the visible side effects of aging.
