Services for Wynell Morton, 84, of Jacksonville, were held Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Bartley Funeral Home, Grand Saline. Burial was in Sand Flat Cemetery.

Wynell accepted Jesus as her personal savior at an early age and on April 4, 2024, at 8:45 p.m., she landed safely in His arms. No more pain, no more sickness – only joy. She was born July 19, 1939, in Plainview, to Hubert Oliver & Ethel Mary McElroy Lee. She was raised in Grand Saline, graduating from GSHS, Class of 1957, and spent most of her life there, where she was a member of Richland Heights Baptist Church. She had moved to Jacksonville two years ago and was a member of Rocky Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Dialville, Texas. Wynell retired from Madix Inc., Terrell, after 34 years of service. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Alvin Montgomery, Bobby Morton, and Charles Holley; daughter, Leanne Kendrick; grandson, Patrick Morton; two brothers, H. Carroll Lee, and H. Laverne Lee; and stepson, Robert Morton.

Survivors include her son, Curtis Montgomery and wife, Becky, of Jacksonville; two stepsons, Carl Morton of California, and David Morton and wife, Sheri, of Oceanside, California; brother, Earlon Lee and wife, Lillie, of Grand Saline and many nieces and nephews; 13 grandchildren, Jessica Leach, Josh Morton, Jason Morton, Jaime Morton, Juliana Morton, Brian Morton, Scott Morton, Ryan Montgomery, Kadie Johnston, Summer Quillin, Chandy Alcalan, Carly Brown, and Chris Yates; numerous great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

On December 16, 1982, Wynell became Mamaw. She relished this role and set about to make her home fun for the grands and extended family. As the family grew so did her heart. She was so proud of all her grandkids and cherished their visits. There was always something fun going on at Mamaw and Pop’s house. She never expected to meet her great-grandchildren, so she was overjoyed when the family expanded even more.

Wynell was an accomplished quilter, It was her hobby and she was good at it. Sometimes, she would enlist others to help sew but most of the time she was happy to just work on and off on projects on her own. Most of the family has received her amazing quilts. She won several ribbons from various fairs and festivals including a first-place ribbon at the State Fair of Texas.

She started playing piano at the age of six, and she had a lifelong love of music and faith. Wynell played piano at every church she attended and loved to do so. Her piano played the music of her soul.

She loved her family, friends, and church. Grandchildren served as pallbearers.
